Mödling District

The district is located in Lower Austria Mödling in the industrial area.

Geographical location

The district is located immediately adjacent to the south of Vienna. The district is divided by the thermal line, the eastern half of the Vienna Basin, the western in the Vienna Woods is located.

History

The District Mödling has only existed since 1896, before the churches were also managed with those of the district of Baden. 1938, the district was incorporated into Greater Vienna in 24th district, where individual municipalities were added to the 25th district. In 1954 the District Mödling became independent again and was returned to Lower Austria.

Demographics

Nature

Viticulture and the Vienna Woods with the nature park Föhrenberge determines the landscape. A special gem is the nature reserve Eichkogel, a hill with dry grass, which is home to many rare animal and plant species.

Economy

The District Mödling Although geographically one of the smallest, but economically one of the strongest in Austria. It also has the highest tax revenue. While most companies are in the shallow east, the forest communities are primarily residential communities, where many second homes of Viennese population. The most famous operation is the Shopping City Süd ( SCS), one of the largest shopping centers in Europe.

Traffic

The District Mödling is the only district in Austria, run in which four different freeways or expressways, namely the A2 south motorway and the A21 outer ring road, as well as the Vienna outer ring expressway S1 and the A3 south-east motorway. Other major streets are the former federal highways B17 and B16 Triesterstraße.

The Southern Railways ÖBB is the most important north-south connection. There is also the Pottendorfer line Aspangbahn and the Badner Bahn.

The District Mödling divided into 20 municipalities, including a city and twelve market towns.
