Monstab

Monstab is a municipality in the administrative community Rositz in the Thuringian district Altenburger Land. It lies about 6 km west of the county town of Altenburg, and on the southern edge of the Meuselwitz - Rositzer lignite Revieres.

Geography

Monstab with its hamlets located west of Altenburg in Zeitz - Altenburger - Lößhügelland, an offshoot of Leipzig lowlands with very good soils above and below. Federal highway 180 passes east. Adjacent communities are (clockwise) Rositz, Lödla, Göhren, Stark Mountain and Kriebitzsch.

Community structure

The municipality consists of the villages of Monstab, Krebitschen, Kröbern, Schlauditz and meadow mill.

History

Monstab was a Sorbian Rundling, called 976 Masceltorp, 1270 and 1413 Mazeltoph Monstaph.

Today's church was built Monstab 1952/53, by incorporation of the places Kröbern, Schlauditz ( with Krebitschen ) and meadow mill.

Population Development

Through establishment of industrial and mine workers, the population Monstabs rose to the mid- 20th century sharply. Extrapolating the 1952/53 eingemeindeten districts to Monstab 1946 had 1,059 inhabitants in the year. In comparison, all places had together in 1871 only 400 inhabitants.

Since the local elections of 7 June 2009, the council is composed as follows:

  • CDU - 2 seats ( 36.5%)
  • WG Sports - 4 seats (50.8 %)
  • Voter initiative - 0 seats ( 12.6%)

The turnout was 64.2 %.
