Geographical location

Ponitz is located north of the motorway and the city 4 Crimmitschau at the junction of Zeitz - Schmöllner - Lösshügellandes in the Vorgebirgslagen the Thuringian Slate Mountains and the Ore Mountains. History

The place is believed to have been founded by Slavic settlers, which explains the old spelling Ponicz. In 1254 the castle and its owner Ponitz Fridericus de Ponicz was first mentioned, as it is called in a donation as a witness. 1349 is mentioned in the history books of a church and a Vorwerk. After the purchase of the manor in 1568 by Abraham Thumbshirn of the medieval water castle in 1574 was replaced by a Renaissance building that can still be visited today. The most significant owner of the castle was Ponitz Wolfgang Conrad of Thumbshirn who co-signed the peace treaty to end the Thirty Years' War as a diplomat in 1648 and was also instrumental in the materialization of this contract. Policy

Since resolution of the joint management Upper Pleißental on 21 April 1995 Goessnitz fulfilling community is both Ponitz as well as for Heyersdorf.
