Naked Bike

Naked bikes are "naked" series street bikes, ie motorcycles without full or partial lining. They are designed for use on the (country ) road. The engine power is usually between 35 and 100 kW ³, the displacement of 500-1400 cm. The vehicle geometry ( steering head angle, wheelbase and weight distribution) and the landing gear are usually designed to handiness.

History

The term Naked Bike has come to be the mid-1990s in Europe. Almost every motorcycle until well into the 1980s was undisguised. Full or partial fairings were previously restricted to racing usual. Ultimately naked bike is little more than the advertising term for a stock bike without full fairing in a class in which for a time almost all motorcycles had a disguise. The term was increasingly promoted by the manufacturers, but encountered in the motorcycle community now increasingly unacceptable. The term Naked Bike is frowned upon just among lovers of classic bikes.

Pros and Cons

Non-streamlined motorcycles are valued for their "classical " perceived appearance. Another advantage is that in a crash no - often expensive - trim may be damaged. The engine and the chassis at a unclad motorcycle are more visible than a disguised machine.

By not using a panel of wind pressure is significantly increased on the driver's head and upper body. The higher compared to clad motorcycle drag requires more power for the same speed.

Other motorcycles without casing

Honda CB1300, Yamaha XJR, Suzuki GSX 1400 and others are also available for the retro trend with the look of the super bikes of the 1980s, of that class of big bikes.

Motorcycles with cockpit canopy

Although they do not form naked bikes in the literal sense, are motorcycles with standard or optional small cockpit fairing, such as Suzuki Bandit (eg Bandit 1200S Bandit 650S ) Suzuki SV (SV 650 S, SV 1000 S), Kawasaki (z. example, Z750, Z1000, ZRX1200R ) or Yamaha Fazer (eg FZS 1000 Fazer FZ6 ), also called naked bikes.

Although the cockpit panels provide extensive weather protection, but reduce the wind pressure on the upper body at high speeds significantly.
