Neryungri

Nerjungri (Russian Нерюнгри, Yakut Нүөрүҥгүрү / Nüörünggürü ) is a city in the Russian republic of Yakutia. It has 61 747 (as of October 14, 2010 ) inhabitants, making it the second largest city to Yakutsk Yakutia.

Location

The city is located in eastern Siberia to the northern reaches of the river Stanowoigebirges Tschulman, a tributary of the Timpton in the catchment area of the Lena. From the Republic capital Yakutsk Nerjungri is removed around 740 kilometers south-west. Nerjungri has a railway connection to the Amur - Yakutian highway that connects Nerjungri with the Trans -Siberian Railway.

History

Nerjungri is one of the youngest cities in Russia: it was founded in 1975 as part of the development of a nearby coal deposit. The name derives from the town is the small river Nerjungri, whose name in turn comes from the Evenk language and means as much as " mullets rich." The coal mining and processing of coal dominate today the economic life of the city.

Since the founding of the city, this city consists of two parts: the "old town", are the predominantly industrial enterprises, and the "New Town" with the residential areas.
