Geography

The name of the municipality Uckermark accurately describes the situation in the northwestern part of the Uckermark. With 253 km ² Nordwestuckermark is one of the 40 largest floor area communities in Germany. The municipal area is bigger than the city of Frankfurt am Main or almost twice the size of Schwerin.

Located in the northern Brandenburg area of ​​the municipality includes the glacially influenced hills and lakes Uckermark. Large parts of the community Nordwestuckermark lie in the nature park Uckermärkische lakes, directly adjacent to the Natural Park Feldberg Lakes in the neighboring county Mecklenburg Lake District. Of the five largest lakes Uckermärkischen be mentioned within the municipal area: Big Lake, Dammsee, Big Parmensee, Star Lake and Hagen Naugartener lake. History

The community Nordwestuckermark was (Official Prenzlau country ) formed on 1 November 2001 from the previously independent municipalities Ferdinandshorst, Fürstenwerder, Gollmitz, Kraatz, Naugarten, Roepersdorf / Sternhagen, Schapow, Schönermark and Weggun (Official Nordwestuckermark ) and the Municipality of Wood Village. At the same time, the Office Nordwestuckermark was dissolved and the community Nordwestuckermark official free.

Districts

  • Ferdinandshorst 1825 Ferdinandshorst is first mentioned.
  • Linde Hagen: in June 1944 a concentration camp, the camp Hindenburg emerged as a subcamp of Ravensbruck concentration camp, to build near an SS command post ( Birch Grove ).

Transport links

The B 109 (Berlin- Prenzlau ) runs through the south-east of the municipal area that touches B 198, the municipality in the north east ( district of wooden village).
