Novodvinsk

Nowodwinsk (Russian Новодвинск ) is a town with 40 615 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) in Russia, Arkhangelsk Oblast.

Geography

Nowodwinsk located in northwestern Russia on the Northern Dvina, near the White Sea. The distance to the regional capital Arkhangelsk, which is the closest city at the same time, is 20 km.

History

1936 was founded on the territory of today's a settlement for the workers of a cellulose factory. They bore the name Woroschilowski. In 1941 she became the urban-type settlement. In 1957, the settlement was renamed in Pervomaisky. 1977 Pervomaisky became a town and in Nowodwinsk ( " New Dvina River City " ) renamed.
