Karpogory

Karpogory (Russian Карпогоры ) is a Selo in Northwest Russia. It is part of the Arkhangelsk Oblast and has 4443 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ). It is the administrative center of the Rajons Pinega.

Geography

Karpogory is located about 217 km east of the Oblasthauptstadt Arkhangelsk. It is located on the right side of the river Pinega.

History

Since 1959 Karpogory is the administrative center of the Rajons Pinega. In 1969 began a railway line from Arkhangelsk to Karpogory to build. Originally Karpogory should act as a focal point for further railway lines in the village Leschukonskoje and after Wend Inga ( Komi Republic ). However, these projects were discontinued for lack of financial resources. On December 28, 1975, the first train ran on the track and in 1977 the railway line for passenger service was officially opened. In 1980, finally began construction of the mesas Railroad ( Мезенская железная дорога ) of Karpogory after Leschukonskoje. This should in particular are used to transport timber from the region in the Oblasthauptstadt Arkhangelsk. The construction work at the track went ahead slowly and were eventually stopped completely in 1990. The previously completed 31-kilometer route to the station Jawsora ( Явзора ) was mainly used to transport wood. Since 1992, the settlement damage gas is located at the end of the line ( Шангас ).

Economy and infrastructure

North of the village there is a small airport. There is a road connection to Archangel, which crosses the Pinega twice. Especially in spring, especially after rains, the road is not passable by normal vehicles. About three kilometers north of the village center there is the railway station Karpogory - Passaschirskie.

Karpogory among others in possession of a district hospital, a library, a middle school and a high school branch.
