Oksovsky

Oksowski (Russian Оксовский ) is an urban-type settlement in North West Russia. The place belongs to the Arkhangelsk Oblast and has 2051 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ). It is located in Rajon Plesetsk.

Geography

Oksowski is located on the right bank of the Onega, about 215 kilometers south of the Oblasthauptstadt Arkhangelsk. The nearest town Plesetsk is about 223 kilometers northeast of Okrowski and is also the administrative center of the raion.

History

Oksowski was created in 1961 as a labor settlement for local forest industry, close to the pre-existing railway station Nawolok, which was then part of the Saoneschski railroad. With the development of large bauxite deposits near the resulting settlement Sewerooneschsk, the railway line from Nawolok was starting extended beyond the Onega in the early 1970s. Since 2004 Oksowski center of the municipality Oksowskoje which not only involves Oksowski 16 other places.
