Paris–Bordeaux railway

The railway line connects Paris -Bordeaux since 1853 to 584 kilometers, the capital with the south-western French port city via Orléans and Tours. She was the main trunk line of the Compagnie du Chemin de fer de Paris à Orléans.

The route begins at the Austerlitz train station and is one of the most important of the country. It has already been electrified between 1925-1938, the section Paris - Etampes is four tracks since 1910. Today, they can be driven at speeds of 200 km / h sections, even up to 220 km / h largely.

The use TGVs between Paris and Tours, the LGV Atlantique from Montparnasse train station, which led to significant reduction in passenger numbers at the Austerlitz train station.

The capacity of the section between Tours and Bordeaux is exploited through the use of the route by train types at different speeds. The situation is expected to greatly improve with the commissioning of the LGV Sud Europe Atlantique mid 2017. The track is equipped with the system block Automatique Lumineux.
