Parque Rodó

Parque Rodó is a neighborhood ( barrio ) of the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo.

Location

It is located south of the city. There it is bordered to the south on a small section at the Playa Ramírez to the Río de la Plata or otherwise to the nearby district of Punta Carretas there. To the west lies the Barrio Palermo. In the north Cordón follows, while in the east Pocitos and Punta Carretas continue the urban area. The boundary of the Barrios forms in the east of there past leading Bulevar Artigas, while to the north the streets Maldonado, Joaquin Requena and Canelones, west of the Juan D. Jackson and south of Avenida JMSosa, J. Herrera y Reissig the Avenida, Avenida Gonzalo Ramirez and the streets Dr.Luis Piera and Dr.Pablo M. Maria limitations of the district.

Currently, here are 13 356 inhabitants recorded, of which 7,291 are female and 6,065 male. (As of 2005)

Description

In the quarter, the territory of which a large part of the park of the same name to and including, is the former Parque Hotel, now known as the Edificio Mercosur building, the headquarters of the Mercosur. Furthermore, the Museo Nacional de Artes Visuales and both the engineering faculty as well as that are based on architecture of the Universidad de la República in Parque Rodó. Other noteworthy buildings are the listed as Monumento Histórico Nacional since 1990 Casa Vilamajó or Casa Crespi, Casa Souto, the Casa del Fauno, the Edificio Polifuncional Faro or the Casa Terra, where the corporate headquarters Arpel is housed. The Japanese Embassy, whose residence is located in the Barrio Carrasco, has here on Bulevar Artigas 953 is relocating
