Peter Winnen

Peter Johannes Gertrudis Winnenberg ( born September 5, 1957 in Venray ) is a former Dutch professional cyclist (1980 to 1991) and current journalist and author.

Cycling career

As an amateur Winnenberg took second place at the Peace Race in 1980, the same year took part in the Olympic Games in Moscow and took place in the road race 26 After that he became a professional.

The mountain specialist won twice (1981 and 1983 ) the queen stage of the Tour de France at Alpe d' Huez. In 1982, he won the mountain stage to Morzine. During his Tour debut in 1981 Winnenberg finished fifth overall and also won the white jersey for the best young rider. Two years later he became a tour - third behind Laurent Fignon and Angel Arroyo. 1983 Winnenberg finished second in the Tour de Suisse. He succeeded in 1987 only a second in the overall standings behind winner Andrew Hampsten. Journalist and author

1991 Winnenberg retired from professional cycling and studied art history. Together with the two former professional cyclist Maarten Ducrot and Steven Rooks admitted Winnenberg 1999 many years of doping during his professional time.

With his autobiography, " Van Santander Santander naar " Winnenberg presented in 2000 before an unsparing look at the world of cycling. The book was published in spring 2005 under the title "post from Alpe d' Huez " in Bielefeld Covadonga Verlag in German. The same publisher Winnens appeared in 2008 collected columns, essays and short stories out of work for several Dutch newspapers and magazines under the title " Good legs, legs bad ".

Winnenberg writes as a sports columnist for the respected NRC Handelsblad and provided further books that have not yet been translated into German.
