Phunphin District

Amphoe Phunphin ( Thai: อำเภอ พุนพิน ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the province of Surat Thani in southern Thailand. Tha Kham is the capital of the district Phunpin.

Geography

The neighboring districts and regions are (from north clockwise): Amphoe Tha Chang which, Mueang Surat Thani, Ban Na Doem, Khian Sa, Khiri Council Nikhom and Vibhavadi; all counties belong to the province of Surat Thani. Phunphin has in the northeast also a short coastline on the Bay of Bandon.

The largest rivers of the district are the Maenam Tapi and Phum Duang its tributary, which flows near the town Tha Kham in the Tapi.

Public transport

The county Phunphin is a public transport hub of the province of Surat Thani. He has a total of three stations, four railway breakpoints and a turn-off. The " Surat Thani Railway Station " in this Amphoe is the main station of the province. At the Ban Thung Pho Junction at km 631 there is a turnoff to the formerly planned railway station in the district Takua Thung of Phang Nga Province, just across from Phuket. After in 1956 the first 31 km to Khiri Ratthanikhom were completed, the project was put on hold due to financing difficulties.

In Amphoe Phunphin also include the airport Surat Thani, the "Inland Container Depot " (ICD ) and the " Asian Highway " AH2 as the main connection to the other provinces of Thailand.

History

The district was renamed Tha Kham in Phunphin in 1939.

Management

Amphoe Phunphin is divided into 16 communes ( tambon), which further into 100 villages ( Muban ) are divided.

The city ( Mueang thesaban ) Tha Kham covers parts of the tambon Tha Kham.

There are also 16 " Tambon Administrative Organizations" ( TAO - administrative units ).
