Pigniu

Pigniu ( [ piɲiʊ̯ ]? / I, and German until 1943 officially Panix, then until 1984 officially Pigniu / Panix ) was up on 31 December 2013, a municipality in the district Ruis in the district Surselva the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland. On 1 January 2014 merged with the former municipalities Pigniu Castrisch, Duvin, Ilanz, Ladir, luffing, Pitasch, Riein, Rueun, Ruschein, Schnaus, Sevgein, Siat the new community Ilanz / Glion.

Geography

The municipality is located in Panixertal, a steep northern tributary of the Anterior Rhine Valley, 11.5 km north west of Ilanz. She has an interest in the preliminary glacier. To the north and above the town is the dam Lag da Pigniu ( 1,452 m above sea level. M. ). The entire northern part of the municipality consists of mountains, which is also reflected in the land use statistics. Of the approximately 18 km ² municipal area are 877 ha unproductive areas (mountains ). Of the 647 ha of agricultural land are 598 ha of mountain farms ( mountain pastures ). More 267 hectares are covered by forest and woodland, and the remainder of 7 ha settlement area. The Panixerpass ( rätorom. pass dil Veptga ) connects Pigniu with Elm in the Glarus Sernftal. The Panixerpass gained some notoriety as the host of the Russian General Suvorov in an evasive movement against the French crossed the pass. The long distance path leads Senda Sursilvana, something peaceful by Panix and continue along the young Rhine from the Oberalp Pass in direction Chur.

Population

Of the 43 residents ( end of 2004) all possessed a Swiss citizen.
