History

The town developed in the 14th century to early urban settlement, and was also mentioned in a deed to the Wettin from May 15, 1328 as a little town, with natural fortifications for fixing this. However Pölzig not received city rights such as Schmölln or Lucka, who belonged just as Pölzig since 1603 to the Duchy of Saxe-Altenburg in the late Middle Ages. In the place still existed a castle, which was also mentioned in 1328 and which later developed the manor. The tower of the castle was blown up by the then owner, who acquired the estate a year earlier on 25 October 1936 and partially demolished the building. By 1950, existed in Pölzig a cigar factory, today is reminiscent of the monument in the form of a cigar.
