Pont-la-Ville

Pont- la -Ville ( Freiburg Patois Pont ' na - Vela / i ) is a municipality in the canton of Fribourg Greyerzbezirk in Switzerland. The former German name Ponnendorf is no longer used today.

Geography

Pont- la- Ville is located at 746 m above sea level. Level, 10 km north- northeast of the district main town cop (air line). The village is located on a terrace at a scenic location around 70 m above the eastern shore of Lake Gruyère, at the northern edge of the Alps between the heights of Marly in the west and in the east Berra.

The area of ​​4.3 km ² large municipality area ( with Seeanteil 5.5 km ²) includes a portion of the pre-Alpine landscape at the foot of the Berra. The western border is the Lake of Gruyere, where the border is not in the middle of the reservoir, but along the sunken in the water meanders of the Sarine (French: Sarine ) runs. Population

With 583 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Pont- la -Ville is one of the smaller communities of the Canton of Fribourg. Of the 92.4 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 4.6 % and 0.9 % portugiesischsprachig (as of 2000). The population of Pont- la -Ville in 1900 amounted to 471 inhabitants. After that, the population increased by strong migration to 1970 by over 40 % to 270 persons. Since then, rapid population growth was recorded again.

Economy

Pont- la -Ville was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, animal husbandry and dairying, and to a lesser extent agriculture an important role in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available. Pont- la -Ville has a golf course and hotel. History

The municipality of Pont- la -Ville been inhabited since the Roman era. It remains of a Roman building and a druid stone were found. The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1228 under the name Pont la vila, derived from the Latin word pons ( bridge).

Since the Middle Ages was under Pont- la -Ville the Bishop of Lausanne. Below the village initially held a wooden bridge, since 1544 a stone arch bridge (Pont de Thusy ) over the Sarine. This bridge was flooded with the damming of the Lac de la Gruyère in 1948. After the conquest of Vaud by Bern Pont- la -Ville in 1537 came as a former episcopal area under Canton Fribourg rule and was assigned along with the neighboring village of La Roche an exclave of the Bailiwick of bull. After the collapse of the ancien régime (1798 ) was one of Pont- la -Ville during the Helvetic Republic and the subsequent time to 1848 to the then district bull before it was incorporated in the district of Gruyère.
