Putanges-Pont-Écrepin

Putanges -Pont- Écrepin is a commune with 1019 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Orne of the Basse-Normandie region.

Geography

The village is surrounded by the countryside Norman Switzerland. The nearest towns are Flers, Falaise and Argentan. Putanges -Pont- Écrepin is situated on both sides of the river Orne. Structure and formation

The municipality was created in 1965 from the previously independent municipalities Putanges and Pont- Écrepin. Putanges was the more important place, and since the French Revolution, capital of the canton which still exists today. The community was after the revolution the name first Putange. Pont- Écrepin first called Pontécrépin.

History

Putanges built in the 13th century on a hill overlooking the Orne. This is today still referred to as Putanges Vieux (Old Putanges ).
