Quitupan is a municipality in the Mexican state of Jalisco in the Región Sureste. The municipality had the Census 2010 8.691 inhabitants; the area of ​​the Municipalities is 676.3 km ².

Greatest place in the municipality and administrative headquarters is the same Quitupan. Another place with at least 1,000 inhabitants exists with Lázaro Cárdenas. The municipality comprises a total of 122 villages.

The municipality borders the Municipalities Quitupan Valle de Juarez and Santa María del Oro and the Municipalities Marcos Castellanos, Jiquilpan and Cotija in the state of Michoacán.

The municipality lies at 1550 m to 2100 m altitude and has thereby share in the Sierra de Mazamitla. Approximately 75 % of the municipal area is wooded.
