Radical 213

Radical 213 is with the meaning "turtle" is one of only two traditional radicals of Chinese writing with sixteen strokes.

With only a single character connection in Mathews ' Chinese - English Dictionary it is very rare. In the Kangxi Dictionary, it was nevertheless still 24 characters which had to see this radical.

The oracle bone shape shows a frog, an image that is no longer visible in the seal shape.

In China, turtles have always loved to eat. Thus, about 10 million animals are imported annually. Often there are species that are critically endangered. But not even turtle farms may yet meet the needs sufficiently.

In Asian art turtles are often depicted, often in palaces, temples and grave sites, taking into often as Bixi a stele with inscriptions on the back.

The traditional long form of radical 213 can be written in slightly different ways. The variant with broken horizontal lines actually needed 18 strokes:
