Rochester [ ɹɑ ː tʃɪstɚ ] is a city in the southeast of the U.S. state of Michigan. This is north of the United States along the border with Canada. In 2000, Rochester was one of 10,467 inhabitants.

Geography

Rochester is located near the western Lake Erie shore and close to the border of Detroit, whose metropolitan area the city is. Rochester belongs to the administrative district of Oakland County, one of the wealthiest counties in the world. It lies on the so-called " Automation Alley ", an area which owes its name to a concentration of corporate offices, including their products to high technology. However, Rochester is located in scenic surroundings.

Culture and sights

History

The first settlement by European-derived settlers in the region of Oakland County was held on March 17, 1817 by James Graham and his family rather than on the present territory of Rochester. This event is celebrated every year in Rochester today by the Founders Day Celebration.

Education

Rochester is home to the Oakland University, which opened in 1959. In addition, the largest " law school " ( according to a law school ) U.S. a campus in Rochester; the private, the only non- university affiliated Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan's capital. In the neighboring city of Rochester Hills is the Rochester College. The school district Rochester, whose administration is located in the city of Rochester, including Rochester Hills, Rochester, and the Charter Township of Oakland. It has three public high schools, five Public Middle Schools, fifteen Elementary Schools ( two in Rochester itself) and eight private schools, mostly religious backgrounds. Four of the private schools are located on the administrative city of Rochester, one of which is a Montessori school.

Museums, theaters and other cultural institutions

Meadow Brook Hall is situated in a large garden museum, which illustrates the historic building and living style of the region. It is the fourth largest museum of its kind in the U.S.. Built from 1926 to 1929, it was originally the residence of Matilda Dodge Wilson, the founder of the Dodge car brand, John Francis Dodge widow. The Rochester located in the neighboring Hill Museum at Van Hoosen Farm deals with the history of Rochester and Oakland counties. Founded in 1967 Meadow Brook Theatre is located on the campus of Oakland University and is the largest professional, but non-profit working theater in Michigan. And internationally known artists perform in it. A symphony orchestra belongs since 1961 to the cultural offerings of the city. In addition, Rochester has a professional music school. Rochester is the site of an internationally renowned school for the training of guide dogs. The city has seven different parks with different design and use and sporting venues. The Rochester Community House was built in the Rochester Municipal Park. It serves as a meeting place for clubs many ways and offers space for private and public events. The nature reserve Dinosaur Hill Nature Preserve offers an award-winning an award information center. There is a traditional way cider -producing farm with sightseeing opportunities and social program on the old, driven by water power Yates Cider Mill.
