Roy Carroll

Roy Carroll ( born September 30, 1977 in Enniskillen ) is a Northern Irish football goalkeeper. He is currently at the Greek champions Olympiakos Piraeus in the Greek Super League under contract.

Career

Association

Carroll began his career at Hull City. While still a youth player he moved in April 1997 to Wigan Athletic and made his debut for that club in 1998 in the Premier League. Manchester United signed him in July 2001 for 2.5 million pounds. There he had to deal with the French goalkeeper Fabien Barthez. With Manchester, he won the championship in 2002/ 03. The following season, the American National player Tim Howard was committed, who replaced Carroll at point Barthez as a goalkeeper. Only in the 2004/05 season Carroll was indeed the first keeper, but was again replaced after a few errors of Howard.

In 2005 he did not renew his contract with Manchester United after he was given no regular place guarantee. Instead, he moved to West Ham United. After two years in London and 31 championship matches hired him in July 2007 at the Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers. Only about half a year later, he returned in January 2008 returned to England from now on to play for the then Premier League club Derby County. In August 2009, he joined the Danish first division side Odense BK and signed a three -year contract. In February 2011, Carroll left Odense BK after they committed the unemployed at the time the German Stefan Wessels. Carroll claimed to want to switch to his home, had to stop due to an alcohol disease under a false name in a rehabilitation clinic earlier, however.

He graduated in January 2011 for a friendly game reserve team for Sheffield United vs Barnsley, in which he conceded two goals in 25 minutes and was sent off after causing a penalty kick. Because of this poor performance to him, no contract was offered. He then coached the sample at third division FC Barnet, where he was assigned as player-coach. This also failed, although he won as a coach the Hertfordshire Senior Challenge Cup in his only game. In July 2011, tested the second division side Preston North End Carroll, him in a 7-1 friendly win over Kendal Town FC inserting - a contract offer from Preston was withdrawn at the last minute, however.

After eight months of unemployment Carroll moved to the 2011/12 season to the Greek first division club OFI Crete. After the first round, Carroll took care in 16 games the gate of the Cretans, he signed a contract with Olympiakos Piraeus. The club broke the contract on the debtor only in the summer season Argentine keeper Franco Costanzo, who hired the Northern Irishman for 18 months. Roy Carroll came in the first leg of the sixteenth finals of the UEFA Europa League 2011/12 against Rubin Kazan at his first: He solved in 73 minutes Balázs Megyeri who had seen the red card after an emergency brake, in the starting gate. The Northern Irishman gave the following penalty and paved the Greek team, also thanks to his stellar performance in the second leg, the way into the second round.

National

Carroll is the Northern Ireland national team. His first international game he played on 21 May 1997 in Thailand, which ended 0-0.

On June 2, 2012 Carroll returned after six years of absence in the game against the Netherlands in the national team back.
