Kleinjogg, agricultural reformer in the 18th century

One of the most famous Rümlang is the Kleinjogg. He lived in the hamlet Katzenrüti, where a plaque commemorates him recalls: In this house had the pattern maker Jakob Gujer called Kleinjogg, 1769-1785 for an exemplary renovation of the Zurich agriculture. Johann Wolfgang Goethe visited the patterns Bauer on June 12, 1775 and 26-27. November 1779: I have no abgesencktes from the Wolcken Ideal encountered, thank God, but one of the most magnificent creatures, as the earth brings forth. ( Goethe to Sophie von La Roche, Zurich, June 12, 1775).

Closely associated with Kleinjogg is the legend of the steeple knitted ( Zurich German: from glismete Chile tower). The Rümlang had in fact turned in the 18th century on agriculture and home-working in the textile industry. They were specialized in the production of socks. Not only women and children, the men knitted coarse woolen stockings. The Rümlang dyed the wool and let their products by peddlers throughout Zürichbiet and beyond sell. However, whether all these Professionistentätigkeit came agriculture too short. Where all knitted, they were worth, were missing hands for cultivation of the soil, so that many fields vergandeten. That was Kleinjogg an eyesore. He leased around 1775 three Jucharten neglected farmland and built Esparsetten in to give his neighbors an example of how they could make their goods to sources of true wealth if they would swap their miserable idlers employment (knitting) with field work. From these words, you can tell was why throughout Zurich lowlands scoffed at the Rümlang - indeed, one even claimed that they had even " glismet » its steeple!
