Sankt Lorenzen bei Knittel is a municipality with 803 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district court district Mur and Jews Castle in Styria.

Geography

Geographical Location

San Lorenzo is located in the Mur valley about six kilometers northeast of Knittelfeld. The municipal area is to the right of the River Mur which forms the boundary of the municipality in the valley for long stretches, and stretches along the Preggrabens on the slopes of the Gleinalpe.

History

The Mur was in Roman times a major traffic route. Therefore, were also found in the municipality of San Lorenzo Roman period objects. These is a larger silver coins finding from the time of the soldier emperors ( coin 222-268 AD), which was found in 1837 during construction work in Preggraben.

The first written reference concerned the place Listah ( Leistach ) in a document from the year 1047th The fortunes of the area were determined over the centuries by the two monasteries Admont and Seckau. 1849/50 the municipality of St. Lorenzen was built.

From the late 19th century Sauerbrunn sources were used. The facilities fell into disrepair but after the Second World War.

Population

The municipality had 2012 803 inhabitants according to the census. 97.0 % of the population possess Austrian citizenship. For the Roman Catholic Church to 92.7 % of the population profess, 1.1% for Protestant Church. 5.1 % have no religious confession.

Culture and sights

  • Pfarrkiriche hl. Laurentius, first documented in 1075: Late Gothic building ( circa 1500 ) in St. Lorenzen.
  • Church of St. Benedikten, first documented in 1147: " Double Church " resulting from assembly of adjacent Romanesque and Gothic chapel.

Economy and infrastructure

According to Census of 2001, there are 32 workplaces with 230 employees in the community as well as 231 and 153 commuter commuters. There are 56 agricultural and forestry enterprises (of which 29 in the main acquisition ), which together manage 4,869 ha ( 1999).

Of economic importance are the Hartsteinwerke in Preg and operation of the gravel - Union.

In the village there is a kindergarten and an elementary school.

The transport infrastructure is via the Pregerstrasse L 553 The Murtalschnellstraße S 36 runs just north of the municipal territory. The municipality is also the station Fentsch -St. Lorenzen on the southern railway.

Policy

The council consists of nine members and is since the municipal elections 2010 mandatary of the following parties together:

  • 5 Independent Citizens' List St. Lorenzen (UBS)
  • 3 ÖVP
  • 1 SPÖ

The Independent Citizens' List provides the mayor with Hubert Wolf Berger.

Partner community

St. Lorenzen bei Knittelfeld maintains together with Feistritzwerke Knittelfeld a community partnership with the Italian town of Grado. Every year there are trips there and also representatives from Grado regularly visit the two communities. Feistritzwerke and St. Lorenzen also bring every year a Christmas tree to Grado, who during the Christmas season, the Basilica Saint Eufemia adorns there. Although the partnership deed was officially signed until 29 November 2003 to the contact and friendship between the communities dates back to 1989.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms was granted by decision of the Styrian Provincial Government from 1 July 1965. Blazon (Coat of Arms description): " In a diagonally astride of gold and green divided shield an assimilated red fire grate with stem and ring at the top, a horizontal shaft silver bar in the middle of the lower field ".
