Santa Margalida

Santa Margarita ( Santa Margarita Castilian ) is a municipality with 12.243 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2013 ) in the north- east of the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca.

The population is divided into three residential projects, the eponymous capital of Santa Margarita, ten kilometers from the coast inland, and the two tourist resorts of Can Picafort and Son Serra de Marina to the sea on the bay of Alcúdia ( Badia d' Alcúdia). In 2006, the foreigners in the community was 23.6 % ( 2,413 ), the proportion of German population 6.7% ( 683 ).

Geography

Geographical Location

The community of Santa Margarita is located around 45 kilometers from the island's capital, Palma. It is part of the region ( comarca ) of Pla de Mallorca or Es Pla, the great plain of the island center.

The community is one of the flattest of the island with hardly altitudes above 100 meters above sea level ( msnm ). Some torrents ( torrents ) drain the municipality northeast direction to the sea. In the northwest Santa Margarita borders the freshwater wetland Albufera, a nature reserve. Along the northeastern coastline obelisks are placed at regular intervals of 1,250 meters. With its 200 meters inland established twin towers, they were orientation storms for navigation in the last century.

Neighboring communities

In the northwest and west by the municipalities of Muro and Llubí bordering the municipality of Santa Margarita. Both belong as well as the south adjacent municipalities of Maria de la Salut, Ariany and Petra to Es Pla. To the east is the Torrent de na Borges the border to the municipality in the Arta region Llevant.

Santa Margarita

The place has a long tradition in agriculture and handicrafts.

The historically documented formation of a congregation took place in the first years after the Reconquista. The ancient inscriptions and grave stones, however, have pointed out that the place was inhabited in Roman times under the name of Hero. Later, among the Arabs was the country estate Abenmaaxbar here. To the place itself and the image of the holy Margarita is shrouded in many legends and myths that eventually led to give the community the name.

Testimony of prosperity is the large parish church of Santa Margarita, this was built in 1232 and 17-18. Century rebuilt. From the church itself offers a magnificent panorama over the country. Inside the house of God is resplendent with rich furnishings of the side chapels.

Can Picafort

Can Picafort (or Ca'n Picafort ) is a tourist resort on the Bay of Alcudia. Approximately in the middle is a five kilometer long sandy beach on which the hotel lined up at the hotel between Port d'Alcudia in the north of the bay and Can Picafort. Only the Albufera Nature Reserve, which borders on about two miles of the bay, prevents coalescence of the two tourist spots. The 800 -hectare nature reserve is a pleasant alternative to the neighboring tourist centers and is best explored using the bikes.

The place Can Picafort is completely designed for tourism. Are located on the beach promenade of bars and restaurants, there is a shopping street for the day and a pedestrian zone for the evening.

Can Picafort is a place that is alive not only in the attractive tourist months. In the off season it is however much quieter, and many shops are closed. The number of inhabitants of the capital of the Santa Margarita topped in the mid- 1990s and so Can Picafort has become a place of residence. The main infrastructure facilities are here now also available.

From the hamlet of Son Bauló you can reach along the southeast coast of the necropolis of Son Real and s'Illot of Porros, the latter located on a barrier island. Both are legacies of the so-called Talayotic from the early history of Mallorca. The coastal path leads from there to Son Serra de Marina.

Motorsport

In Can Picafort is one of the largest kart racing tracks located in Mallorca. After the renovation in 2004, the go-kart track has a total length of 1325m. The kart track is divided into two tracks. To stand for the approved professional racing track 725m and 825m for the rental kart track available. Every year there next national races also held an international 24 -hour race.

Son Serra de Marina

The grid pattern in the 1960s resort six kilometers southeast of Can Picafort attracts about 1400 meters in the Bay of Alcudia along. It consists exclusively of one-to two-story houses, most of which were built as second homes of locals. Accordingly quiet it goes to on the streets. Only during the holiday season come the owners of the houses from Palma or from the mainland and enliven the place. Mass tourism has not yet been held, in contrast to Can Picafort feeder.

Son Serra de Marina has a small marina on the western edge of the settlement. East of the site is limited by the Torrent de na Borges. The local beach is the area of wind - and kite- surfers. In addition to this beach there are two restaurants and a free parking. A curiosity from the time of Entsteheng the settlement is the explicit statement in the then purchase agreements, that women and men should not bathe together. Today is east of the village nude bathing usual.

The place has three moderately visited beaches. The local beach Platja de Son Serra de Marina, west of the Torrent de na Borges within the settlement, about 450 meters long and 130 meters wide, is mostly frequented by locals. East of the town lies the 1,500 -meter-long beach of Arenal de sa Canova, which already belongs to the municipality of Arta and reaches almost to the district S'Estanyol of Colonia de Sant Pere. To the west a bit off the settlement there is the beach of Son Real. A coastal trail runs northwest to to Can Picafort.

  • Necropolis of Son Real and s'Illot of Porros - necropolis of Talaiot Culture on the coast between Son Bauló ( Can Picafort ) and Son Serra de Marina.
  • Torres de Defensa - The old " defense towers " along the coast of the municipality of Santa Margarita, the obelisk -shaped pairs are stacked, respectively, were built after the Civil War as landmarks for submarines. They have a red top, to be better seen from the lake. The towers are to be restored in the next few years gradually.
