Schonach im Schwarzwald

Schonach is a town in the Black Forest in the northwest of the Schwarzwald- Baar -Kreis. The health resort is also known as a center of winter sports.

Geography

Geographical location

Schonach located north east of Freiburg im Breisgau, about five miles from Triberg located in a high valley that has a connection to the adjacent Elz Valley in the district of Emmen things. In the north, the area borders on the Ortenaukreis. The three counties meet at Dreikreiseck, a launch site for hang gliders, which provides a view into the lower Kinzig valley, the Upper Rhine plain near Offenburg and with a clear view to the Vosges. In the district Schonach a secondary summit of Rohrhardsberg near the Griesbacher Ecks on the Farnberg plateau is 1,163 meters above sea level the highest point of the Schwarzwald- Baar -Kreis.

Neighboring communities

The municipality is bordered to the east by Triberg, in the south of Schoenwald in the Black Forest ( Schwarzwald-Baar - both circle), on the west by Simon Forest and Elzach (both in Emmen things) and to the north of Hornberg ( Ortenaukreis ).

Community structure

The municipality Schonach with the previously independent community Rohrhardsberg include 81 villages, hamlets, tines, farms and residential places.

In the community Schonach in territorial status in 1970 is the Outbound village Riediswald.

The municipality ( the capital ), Rohrhardsberg and Schonachbach was divided into the districts Schonach that formed at the same time residential districts within the meaning of Baden-Württemberg municipal code.

History

Its name originates from the Old High German and means bright flowing water. He was first documented in 1275, a settlement but is suspected since the beginning of the 12th century.

Religions
