History

The first mention Schonstetts is found in a charter of Emperor Henry IV in the year 1077th In this " privilege Henrici IV imperatoris " the place as one of the founding donation of Duke Tassilo III. called to the nun Chiemsee. The donation had been 780 and was mentioned at the dedication of the monastery by the Bishop of Salzburg Vigil in 782. Thus Schonstett is already over 1200 years old. The old castle was then at the present Kirchberg, of which the massive church tower and the old chapel still bear witness to the 12th century. From the old castle tower, an exposed show tower, the place probably takes its name. Because the dialect is called the place " Schauschded ".

The Codex diplomaticus Falkensteinensis mentioned Schonstett as Sconsteten, later as Sconstet, is found in later documents of the Monastery Herrenchiemsee from the 12th century Schônstete. In the high Middle Ages, the lords of vassals Schonstett the Hall Count of Wasserburg am Inn were. In the middle of the 15th century hilltop castle is abandoned and a moated castle built in 1480.
