Geography

Amerang located in Southeast Upper Bavaria in the foothills of the Alps, specifically in Chiemgau. The village is located around 12 km south-east of Wasserburg am Inn, 30 km south of Waldkraiburg, 24 km west of consolation mountain, 34 km north- west of Traunstein, 10 km north of Endorf and 22 km north-east of Rosenheim. It borders the municipality Obing and thus to the neighboring county of Traunstein.

There are the districts Amerang, Evenhausen, Kirchensur and Unterratting. Other districts are Stephan churches and Hohenöd.

History

The first mention Amerangs was around the year 788 Amerang was in the course of administrative reform in Bavaria in 1818 an independent political community. Eng the history of Ameranger area with the owners of Schloss Amerang is from the Middle Ages connected, the fief and Hofmarksherren for the local population. Incorporations

On January 3, 1870, until then independent municipality Unteratting was incorporated. On 1 April 1971 Evenhausen and Kirchensur were added. Parts of the territory of the neighboring community Pittenhart ( Traunstein ) then with about 40 inhabitants, followed on 1 January 1982.

The coat of arms is conducted since 1969. It is reminiscent of the former local nobility.

Traffic

Since 2006 Amerang is reached again by the Chiemgau local railway.

Culture and sights

Museums

  • Amerang is the only village in Bavaria with three museums. In the farmhouse Amerang many original decorated farms can be visited from the period 1525-1925 on an area of ​​40,000 m². The EFA Museum for German automotive history shows to approximately 6,000 m² more than 220 German automotive classics from all eras.
