History

Middle Ages

Resided - today's Saint- Yrieix- la -Perche -; († 591 known as St.Yrieix ), which in Attanum In the 6th century the area belonged to the Frankish abbot Ségur Aredius of Limoges.

The viscounty Ségur was established in the 9th century as a major feudal association was smashed in the Limousin. The cartulary of Uzerche mentioned a certain Vice - Count Foucher, scion of the noble family Foucher and younger brother of d' Hildegaire († 945), for its part, Vice - Count of Limoges. It is believed that this Foucher was a brother of Archambaud de Comborn, for its part, First Vice - Count of Comborn. At the end of the 10th century married his granddaughter Emma, daughter of Adémar I. and sole heiress of the Vice County of Ségur, Guy I of Limoges ( 988-1025 ). So the city and the fief of Ségur for the next 600 years came - with brief interruptions - under the rule of the Vice - Count of Limoges. The castle, however, belonged to the canons of property St.Yrieix and the Vice - Count had to pay homage to these canons. Although Ségur was never capital of viscounty Limoges, but many legacies in the castle testify that the men often stayed there. The Count placed in Ségur some of their knights and vassals and officials who were responsible for the administration and jurisdiction in the vice county. The city was also the seat of a castellany that extended within fifteen kilometers over a dozen communities, with only Ségur in 1749 to the actual parish was.

1275 was the Vice- county Limoges by the marriage of Arthur II of Brittany Marie de Limoges to the Dukes of Brittany, but they hardly cared about their distant possession. During the Hundred Years War, the fortress of Ségur after the occupation by the British in the years to 1374 was confiscated in 1361 by the crown of France, and to a base, which was headed by the royal army leaders chosen. The Vice - counts were disempowered in fact at that time. But to the years 1422-1424, they won again of autonomy. 1437 succeeded to the Vice - Count of Limoges Jean de Blois, who was also called L' Aigle ( " the eagle " ) and military leader during the French crown was to annex the county of Périgord its territory.

Modern Times

The Counts of Périgord received in 1343 by the French king Philip VI. the right to establish an appellate court, whose function was to mediate between the ordinary courts of the bailiff and the Parlement de Paris. For the seat that court Ségur was chosen, which led to an economic boom in the city. He subsequently produced in the 15th and 16th centuries in Ségur many mansions. In 1468 the Vice- county Limoges passed through marriage by Alain d' Albret, great-grandfather of the French King Henry IV to the House of Albret. In 1582 bought François de Pérusse, Count of Les Cars, rule Ségur for 34 998 livres. For the past century, the family had Pérusse that prevailed until now Ségur 1643, bought many houses in the city, before finally came into the possession of the castle. 1607 Ségur fell under Henry IV to the French crown, which not only diminished the power of local lords, but also the charisma of the city. 1643 was the fief of Ségur over to the Upper Fort family.

Modern History

1750 the Court of Appeal in Ségur was dissolved by royal decree. Thus, the city had lost its national significance and most middle-class families left Ségur gradually. During the French Revolution the family Haute Fort sold the property in 1795 to the long-established peasant Gabriel Dumas Lavareille, who later became mayor of Ségur.

Ségur was 1919-1924 for a short time Ségur- les- Goujon; today is called the community Ségur- le -Château.
