Seine-et-Marne

The department of Seine- et- Marne [ sɛnemaʀn ] is a French department of atomic number 77, it is located in the Île- de -France region east of Paris and is named after the Seine and Marne rivers.

Geography

The department is bordered to the west by the departments of Essonne, Val- de -Marne, Seine- Saint- Denis and Val- d'Oise, in the north of the Oise, in the northeast on the Aisne, on the east by the department of Marne and Aube, on the southeast by the Yonne department, and on the south by the department of Loiret.

A small part in the west of the department has now grown together with the Paris metropolitan area, including cities like Chelles or Villeparisis. The eastern part of the department is still structured predominantly rural.

The main rivers are the eponymous Marne and Seine, passing through the department in the north or in the south west, and the Yonne, the flows coming from the southeast in Montereau -Fault -Yonne in the Seine.

In the southwest of the department lies with the Forêt de Fontainebleau is a large contiguous forest area.

The majority of the department belongs to the historical regions of Brie and Gâtinais.
