Sergey Tchepikov

Sergei Vladimirovich Tschepikow (Russian: Сергей Владимирович Чепиков, scientific transliteration Sergei Vladimirovič Čepikov; born January 30, 1967 in Choir, Khabarovsk Territory ) is a former Russian biathlete and cross-country skiers.

Career

Successful biathlete

Sergei Tschepikow already won in Calgary in 1988 his first two Olympic medals until 1994, he brought it to a total of five medals, including 2x gold.

In the seasons 1989/90 and 1990/91, he won the overall World Cup as the first Soviet athlete.

Change to the cross-country

Because his shooting results left something to be desired, the Russians moved to these successes to the cross-country skiers, but there could not prevail. His best result was a 9th place in Olympic steeplechase of Nagano (1998). After the fourth for him Olympic Games ended in the meantime 31 -year-old his athletic career, then he turned, among other things a movie.

Return to biathlon

With the start of the 2001/02 season Tschepikow celebrated as 34 -year-old a sensational comeback in biathlon. Tschepikow won five World Cup victories. He was aged 39 in his last World Cup season one of the oldest active athletes in the Biathlon World Cup. After the 2006/ 07 season he finished his final career. He is married to Elena Melnikova.
