Söllingen

Söllingen is a municipality in the district of Helmstedt in Lower Saxony. It is one of the velvet municipality Heeseberg with headquarters in Jerxheim.

Geography

Söllingen lies south of the nature park Elm Lappwald.

History

In 1090 the church was first mentioned as Solynge, eventually suggesting an earlier salt works. In the 19th century Söllingen developed into an industrial site (sugar factory, distillery, steam brickyard, brewery, juice factory and steam dairy ).

The coat of arms was designed by Dr. Arnold Braunschweiger heraldist Rabbow and so adopted by the Municipal Council on 19 July 2001.

Economy and infrastructure

Söllingen is just off the federal highway 244 which leads from Helmstedt to Wernigerode. The community had until December 2007 a ​​breakpoint on the railway line Wolfenbüttel - Helmstedt.
