Steinbach am Attersee

Steinbach is geographically the largest municipality in the district of Vöcklabruck in Hausruckviertel in Upper Austria with 849 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013). The competent jurisdiction is Vöcklabruck.

Geography

Steinbach is located at 509 m altitude in Hausruckviertel. The expansion is 8.6 kilometers from north to south, from west to east 10.9 km. The total area is 61.7 km ². 59.8 % of the area is forested, 6 % of the land used for agriculture.

Blazon: Azure, on a golden, criss-crossed by a blue wave bar rocks a golden eagle with a golden crown and red tongue. The municipality colors are yellow and blue.

History

Steinbach was inhabited in pre-Christian times by the Celts. 1276 a parish was first mentioned. Until the construction of a continuous road Steinbach am Attersee - eastern shore remained in quiet seclusion. The genius loci is undoubtedly Gustav Mahler, the lakeside composed his third symphony in three summer months, in the opinion of many resonates unmistakably the seascape.

Since 1490 the place is the Principality ' Austria above the Enns ' attributed. Since 1918 it belongs to the province of Upper Austria. After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on 13 March 1938, the village belonged to the Upper Danube. After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria.

The parish Steinbach: By the year 1120 Steinbach was placed under the parish Altmünster. When breaking away at this time, St. Georgen im Attergau of Altmünster, Steinbach this parish was assumed as Expositur. Our own parish chronicle begins with the 1781.

Population Development

In 1991, the municipality had 1002 inhabitants according to the census, in 2001 and then 913 in 2011, 842 inhabitants.

Culture and sights

  • The Parish Church of St.. Andreas stands on a hill to some conjecture gives rise. Middle of the 19th century was found here during excavations in the cemetery statues of pagan deities. It may thus already Celts and Romans have used this place. A legend tells of a hot spring near the church and caves in Church Hill. The thought of a pagan place of worship is therefore close. A Christian church on this site applies to the year 760 as a witness. The construction of the present church is not exactly known, but the emergence of the tower is assumed to be about 1410. The about 100 years younger than late-Gothic church, some secondary sources speak of 1516, which is dedicated to St. Andrew, was built under the Bauhütte Stefan Wultinger from Wilding at Voecklamarkt.
  • On Lake access the Gasthof Föttinger is the composing, where Gustav Mahler 1893-1896 composed the 2nd and 3rd symphonies during his stays at the Attersee. In the little house, which was renovated in 1983, there is a small exhibition about the composer.

Personalities

In Steinbach pianist Friedrich Gulda (1930-2000) and Philipp von Ferrary Philatelist (1850-1917) are buried, the latter is buried here under the name " Philip Arnold ". A marble plaque at the entrance of the parish church points to him.
