Lenzing is a market town in Upper Austria in Vöcklabruck district in Hausruckviertel with 5070 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013). The competent jurisdiction is Vöcklabruck.

Geography

Lenzing is at 485 m above sea level. A. Height in Hausruckviertel. The expansion is 4.1 kilometers from north to south and from west to east 4.2 km away. The total area is 8.9 km ². 12.4% of the area is forested and 56.2 % of the area is used for agriculture.

Blazon: A silver bar shaft right diagonally divided; above in red a silver, blue filled halfway, outwardly facing retort; below in blue with a silver needle tree. The municipality colors are red, white and blue.

The coat of arms granted in 1967 is the result of which was organized by the municipality ideas competition. Tree and retort refer to the formative place wood, paper and pulp industry, the wave bar symbolizes the Ager, which enabled the establishment of these plants only.

History

Originally in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria lying, was the area now Lenzing since the 12th century the Duchy of Austria. Since 1490 it has been the Principality ' Austria above the Enns ' attributed. In 1892, the industrialist Emil Hamburger a paper mill in Pettighofen, a forerunner of today's Lenzing AG. Since 1918, the area belongs to the newly founded state of Upper Austria. After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich in 1938 " Zellwolle Lenzing AG " was established. In 1939 the foundation of the church today from the parent community Oberachmann and by annexations of neighboring communities. On 1 January 1940 the name of the village was changed to " Agerzell ". In November 1944, a subcamp of the Mauthausen concentration camp was built in the community Lenzinger part Pettighofen. The up to 565 prisoners, mostly women, forced labor had to work particularly at the Lenzing viscose staple AG. The camp was liberated in 1945 by the U.S. Army in early May. Market town is Lenzing since 1984.

By Lenzing leads the single-track, electrified railway Vöcklabruck -chamber Schorfling. At the stations Lenzing Lenzing site and keep Monday to Friday at irregular intervals trains, some of which are continued until Puchheim.
