History

Steinfeld was first mentioned in 812; in documents from the time it is called ' Steinvelt in Waldsassengove ' (ie Waldsassengau ) refers. By 1200, Steinfeld was already an independent parish; the monastery Neustadt am Main laid claim to the tithe. To 1336 the parish church in the monastery Nuwenstat (New Town) has been integrated. 1614, the new building of the parish church ' Assumption ' by Prince Bishop Julius Real was completed. Significant indications are, inter alia, the building panel on the south side of the longitudinal nave and the tower in the typical ' Real style '. In 1842, an extension of the Fore and Aft. As part of the Prince-Bishopric of Würzburg (Official Rothfels ) Steinfeld arrived in the kingdom in 1803 to the Counts Löwenstein- Wertheim. Both belonged from 1500 to the Frankish Empire circle. 1806 was a Mediatamt from Baden, assigned, 1819, to Austria, which left it to Bavaria.

For the church today are the two districts Hausen ( since 1972) and forest cells (since 1978). From the village of Hausen, first mentioned around 800, dates the peasant leader Kaspar Leyser. He was beheaded in June 1525 along with two other rebellious peasants in Carlstadt. The district forest cell (formerly Cella / cell ) was probably also in the 9th century as a branch of the monastery Neustadt. There are historical references to St. Gertraud. The local Gertraud chapel was named as a source built (1616 by Julius Real, Extension 1849). The construction of the present church of St. Vitus was made in 1612 by order of Julius True.
