The Sun Devil Stadium, Frank Kush Field is a football stadium on the campus of Arizona State University ( ASU) in Tempe, Arizona. It serves as the venue for home games of the college teams Arizona State Sun Devils, playing in the Pacific -12 Conference. The stadium has a seating capacity of 73 379.

History

The Sun Devil Stadium was opened in 1958. The original seating capacity was 30,000. Getting extensions in 1976 increased the capacity to 57 722 and 1988, finally, the current capacity has been reached.

The first football game was held on October 4, 1958. The Arizona State University beat the West Texas State University with 16:13.

1988 pulled the NFL team the St. Louis Cardinals to Arizona and played as Phoenix Cardinals New in Sun Devil Stadium (1994 was the team in Arizona Cardinals renamed).

The record attendance for football games was set up on 9 November 1996, 74 963 spectators in the match for the Pac-10 Conference title. The ASU won the Game against Cal with 35:7 and received with the Pac-10 title and an invitation to the Rose Bowl.

On 21 September 1996, the stadium was renamed in honor of the football coach Frank Kush in Sun Devil Stadium, Frank Kush Field.

2006 attracted the Arizona Cardinals in the newly built University of Phoenix Stadium, located in Glendale.

Events

The Sun Devil Stadium was 1971 to 2006 home of the Fiesta Bowl, moved to the nearby University of Phoenix Stadium with two national championship games after the seasons 1998 and 2002. When the Fiesta Bowl in 2007, Devil Stadium was new to the Insight Bowl played at Sun.

Pope John Paul II visited Phoenix on 14 September 1987 on a trip abroad by the United States. He held a Mass at Sun Devil Stadium with 75,000 in attendance. All Sun Devil logos and labels on the stadium facade containing the word "devil " had to be covered before.

In 1996, the Super Bowl XXX was held in Sun Devil Stadium. The Dallas Cowboys defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers with 27:17 and won the Vince Lombardi Trophy for the fifth time. The match took place in front of a record crowd of 76 347 spectators.

With the concerts on 19 and 20 December 1987, the Irish band U2 decided their Joshua Tree tour here. Another time is U2 occurred during the Popmart tour here on 9 May 1997.
