Sven Selånger

Sven Ivan Selånger (actually Sven Eriksson, born March 19, 1907 in Bergsåker; † November 9, 1992 in Sundsvall ) was a Swedish skier.

Sven Eriksson participated in the Olympic Winter Games in 1928 partly in St. Moritz, where he finished sixth in the Nordic combined, but only 31 in special jumping. In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1931, he won the bronze medal in ski jumping in the 1932 Olympics in Lake Placid, he missed fourth in special jumping and fifth in the Nordic combined the podium twice. In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1933 in Innsbruck, he was world champion in the combination and won the special jumping again bronze. His home church was Selånger of this success so impressed that they allowed him to take the place name Selånger as his last name, to distinguish themselves from the other many " Eriksson " in this area better.

The following year, Sven Selånger was again at the World Cup 1934 on home soil in Sollefteå third in jumping. At the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, he won silver in ski jumping. He was also reported for the inaugural Alpine competitions, but did not at the start. In 1938 he became Swedish Champion in slalom. 1939 Sven won Selånger as the first non Norwegians the annual ski jumping at Holmenkollen. He was awarded the Holmenkollen medal and the Svenska Dagbladet Gold Medal - For this performance.
