Swedish Football Association

The Fotbollförbundet Svenska ( SvFF ) is a Swedish sports federation and the federation of Swedish football. The association was founded on 18 December 1904.

History

Developed early in the 1870s first sports clubs in Sweden. In addition to gymnastics but first athletics, skating, rowing and swimming were the most widespread sports. However, this changed in the 1880s, as were imported from England football, rugby and Bandy.

At first it was still to be place in almost all European countries factional dispute between association football and rugby. On May 22, 1892 IS Lyckans Soldater and Örgryte IS competed against each other. The game, which Örgryte IS 1-0 beating off, is considered the first football game after the association rules between two Swedish teams. 1895 was founded in Gothenburg Svenska Idrottsförbundet, a sports association, which should include all sports. At the same time Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna or Stockholm Idrottsförbund developed as a rival associations. While the first, from 1901, fought out the Kamratmästerskapen, the team played from the other association from 1899 to the Rosenska cups.

1901 was the 1891 founded by Viktor Balck Svenska Gymnastics och Idrottsförbundet own football section, which was directed by Clarence von Rosen. On May 6, 1892, the Svenska Bollspelsförbundet founded by Rosen as chairman. On March 23, 1904 was founded the year before Riksidrottsförbundet as a football section. The first world championship is carried out in the second Tournament 1934. After the Second World War, the Swedish football had its greatest period. At the 1948 Olympic Games, the country team won the gold medal. Although a number of Swedish players move in the subsequent period as a professional player to Southern Europe, but the association refused the professionalism and thus no longer invited players to international matches, further successes were celebrated with the third place in both the World Cup 1950 and the 1952 Olympics.

The World Cup 1958 was planned by SvFF and carried out. With the second place in their own country a brief football euphoria created. The Allsvenskan recorded in the sequence attendance records.
