Töss is a city district of Winterthur in Switzerland. The formerly independent municipality Töss was incorporated in 1922 and today forms the circle 4 The district is named after the river Töss which here flows through a Winterthur.

Geography

Töss located in the southwest of Winterthur. The formerly independent municipality Töss is dominated by the industrial plants and workers' houses of the Rieter and Sulzer companies that are found in the neighborhood Eichliacker in greater numbers. The whole district is divided by the busy Zurich road that cuts through the town center and forms the boundary of the two districts Eichliacker and Schlosstal. Slightly increased over Töss located in a valley, the district Dättnau. It originated in the 1940s and is the largest district of the district. The city district also includes the district Rossberg in the south, which is characterized by a small hamlet and from the same golf course.

History

Earliest ärchaologische finds on the territory of the municipality Töss are a grave from the first / second Century and finds from the Neolithic Age to the Rossberg. Töss was founded probably by an Alemannic leader called " Toissa ". The name appears on 853 for the first time.

1233 donated Count Hartmann IV of Kyburg the monastery Töss that until the Reformation was crucial for the further development of the town. Known inmates of the monastery were among other Elsbeth Stagel, the co-author of the resulting 1340 Tösser sister book and the Hungarian princess Elizabeth of Hungary.

During the Reformation, the monastery was closed in Holy Week 1525. In June of the same year, there were at the gates of the monastery to a revolt of peasants, presented the demands to the Zurich authorities. The destruction of the monastery could be averted. As a result of the event, the monastery was transferred to the end of the year in the nationalized Klosteramts Töss, which existed until the end of the ancien regime. In 1900 Töss had long grown into Winterthur for a workers suburbs and along with Wülflingen one of the first communities with a social democratic majority in the canton of Zurich.

On January 1, 1922, the incorporation of the municipality Töss was adopted by the sovereign to Winterthur, where the hitherto belonging to Töss Bläsihof was ceded to the town of Lindau.
