Geographical Location

Triftern is in the Isar -Inn- hills on Altbach in a small side valley of the Rott about 7 km southeast of the county town parish churches, 12 km southwest of Bad Birnbach, 28 km west of Pocking, 17 km north of Simbach and 18 km from Braunau and 20 km east of Eggenfelden. The nearest railway station on the regional train route Passau - Mühldorf located in Anzenkirchen 5 km away.

History

Many finds from the Stone Age and the Bronze Age point to a prehistoric settlement. Truftara was first documented during the reign of the Bishop of Passau Reginhar ( 818-838 ). The name is derived from Old High German trufteren ( back and forth ) and is found in the word drift ( timber transport ). After Truftrin, Truftiren, Truftern, Trüftern and Meet Tern Triftern is only attested from 1797.

The market rights was the place awarded in 1388. The evidence of that is a valid directory of 1388, which brings out as a record of the evidence of the market survey. On April 25, 1486, market Triftern of Duke George the Rich received the crest law. The market belonged to Rentamt Landshut and the district court parish churches of the Electorate of Bavaria. Triftern had a market court magistrate own rights. In 1806, the market has taken the judiciary. Triftern formed its own tax district. In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, was born with the congregation of 1818, the current community. In 1860 the re-introduction of the magisterial constitution was allowed.

Incorporations

In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria were in the market Triftern on 1 January 1971, the formerly independent communities Lengsham, Voglarn and Wiesing, incorporated on 1 January 1972 Anzenkirchen. On 1 January 1976 parts of the territory were added to the dissolved municipality Ulbering. Neukirchen near parish churches followed on 1 May 1978.

Attractions

Church of St. Stephan

The late Gothic nave building from the second half of the 15th century it was 1860/61, two side aisles. The dome of the west tower dates from 1741. The equipment of the church is neo-Gothic. A Rotmarmorgrabmal for Leo von Lenberg to Triftern was about 1520.

Former castle

Of the buildings around the parish church remained a three-storey building of the 16th century and the resultant from the 17th to the 19th century Weiherhaus obtained with half-hipped roof.

Kaser stone room

The Kaser stone room is a collection of powerful rock blocks and stretches more than 100 meters in length and up to 20 meters wide down the slope. The block flow originated during the Quaternary on the edge of a plateau. Because of the erosion broke the hard quartz conglomerate in there upcoming blocks that migrated through soil flow downslope. The Kaser stone room has been designated by the Bavarian State Office for Environment as Geotop 277R001 and awarded the official seal of approval "Bavaria's most beautiful geotopes ".
