Genesis

On 17 May 1988, the group Frehley 's Comet had their last album, Second Sighting brought out. In the months after the release the band toured as the opening act, among others, by Iron Maiden. After the concert in New Orleans that took place on 2 August 1988, rhythm guitarist death Howarth left the band shortly afterwards went drummer Jamie Oldaker. As of mid- 1989, the name Frehley 's Comet was no longer used and the band, which included now Richie Scarlet (rhythm guitar) and Sandy Slavin (drums), was only called Ace Frehley band.

Scarlet had heard of the founding members of Frehley 's Comet and the musical direction also determined, with which the group began recording their debut album. He could rhythm and lead guitar playing and had a strong influence on the sound of Trouble Walkin ', because he delivered himself with Ace Frehley guitar duels, which include the two guitarists with Rick Derringer and Johnny Winter, and had seen. On many tracks of the album Frehley and Scarlet share the guitar solos.

The production of the album took over Eddie Kramer, who had also produced Frehley 's first solo album and the debut album from Frehley 's Comet. With the exception of the title Trouble Walkin ' the drum parts of the songs were played by Anton Fig.

Even if Trouble Walkin ' was released under the name Frehley 's, it contained several titles that did not come from his pen, as among other things the song Trouble Walkin', which was written by Bill Wray and Phil Brown or published as a single Do Ya, a cover version of the song by the Electric Light Orchestra. Another cover was the Hide -written by Paul Stanley, Desmond Child and Holly Knight Your Heart, which was published in 1988 by Bonnie Tyler on her album Notes From America and 1989 also appeared on the Kiss album Hot in the Shade, by Robin Beck was released on Trouble or Nothin ' and was in the same year on the album Lightning Strikes Twice by Molly Hatchet.

To give the album a maximum success, prominent guests were used for recording backing vocals: On 23 June 1989, the members of the band Skid Row, Sebastian Bach, Snake Sabo and Rachel Bolan took the soundtracks for Trouble Walkin ', Back to School and other songs on; Peter Criss, the former drummer of Kiss, contributed backing vocals and percussion recordings to Shot Full of Rock, Do Ya, Hide Your Heart, Trouble Walkin ' and 2 Young 2 at.

Publication

Trouble Walkin ' was published on 13 October 1989. The cover showed Ace Frehley, who was holding a puppet cross in his right hand. Below the cross are seen three blurred images of guitar playing Frehley; evidently intended to give the impression that it was with them at the puppets, conducted Frehley with his threads. In the upper left corner of the cover is the logo that is overwritten with the words Trouble Walkin '.

In November 2013, the album was re-released in a remastered version of Rock Candy Records.

Reception

The German magazine Rock Hard missed 8 out of 10 possible points and wrote:

"Who 's straightforward and robust, but always high standard like that can save yourself the more to plunge into the next record store and the new FREHLEY album " Trouble Walkin ' " set now. Well, the last slice " Second Sighting " was - due to their partially arg on commercially trimmed song material - not the About Pops, but this error has time ironed out - and Ace production rigged in his rock'n'rolliges guitar playing or his schnoddriger chanting best to come across. That means in plain text nothing else than that experienced on " Trouble Walkin ' " the sound of the seventies a renaissance, and the Master No such songs like " Shot Full Of Love ," " Fractured III " ( cool instrumental ), the title track or " Hide your Heart " presents. No ifs or buts, this fourth Frehley solo album is the best so far and on the best compared to his almost legendary Kiss solo disc from the year '78. "

Do Ya was released as a single, but had no effect on the sale of the album, because the song did not reach the charts.
