United Nations Security Council Resolution 139

Resolution 139 of the UN Security Council is a resolution that was decided by the United Nations Security Council in the 869th meeting on June 28, 1960 unanimously. She busied herself with the inclusion of the Mali Federation as a new member of the United Nations.

Background

The Mali Federation was founded in January 1959 by the former French colonies French Sudan (now the Republic of Mali) and Senegal. Originally Upper Volta also had (later Burkina Faso) and Dahomey (later Benin) of the Federation connected, but retired again in March 1959, and instead joined the Union Sahel - Benin. The Mali Federation gained independence on 20 June 1960.

Content

The Security Council announced that it has examined the uptake of the Mali Federation as a new member of the United Nations and recommended to the UN General Assembly to agree to a recording.

Subsequently

The Mali Federation broke up already on August 20, 1960 again and divided into Senegal and Mali. The Security Council accepted a recording of the two states with Resolution 158 and Resolution 159
