Weiningen is a municipality in the district of Dietikon the canton of Zurich in Switzerland. It is located west of Zurich on the northern edge of the Limmattal.

Geography

The municipality is located right Weiningen the Limmat River and is divided into the following parts: Weiningen village and wine Willingen- Fahrweid. The community is especially known for their expansive Rebbauflächen (approx. 30 ha), which extend over the entire slope of the community ( see also viticulture in Switzerland). History

The first mention Weiningens as Winigon was on February 8, 870 land were owned by free peasants, the church record of the parish church of St. Peter belonged to the Barons of rain mountain; the territory of the parish also included the town Glanzberg. Carmen Schäfer and Janine Greiner, both grew up in Fahrweid -Weiningen, celebrated as curler inside at the international level several successes at European and World Championships and at the Olympic Winter Games.
