Geography

Winzenburg is located north of Bad Gandersheim between the ridge bag forest and the river Leine. At the foot of the mountain the castle Winzenburg are the Apenteichquellen and Apenteiche. The municipality is part of the velvet municipality Freden at (Leine), which has its headquarters in the town of Freden (Leine).

History

Had on the site of desolate pleasing in the 16th century village Hasekenhausen, Bishop Bernard allowed in 1140 a chapel was built a little later under Duke Julius domain. It was named after the nearby castle and from the same settlement developed.

Population Development

At the beginning of the 20th century lived together 750 people in Winzenburg, Klump, Schildhorst and Westerberg. On March 1, 1974, the municipalities Winzenburg, Westerberg, Klump and Schildhorst merged to community Winzenburg.

Mayor

The honorary mayor Dieter Hebner was elected by the Council. To volunteer community director Hans -Jürgen Hebner was chosen.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms was granted on January 4, 1929 by the Prussian State Ministry and presented on January 24, 1929 by the District Administrator.

Blazon: " In red a golden rafters, accompanied up of two silver six -pointed stars and the bottom of a downward swept silver crescent. "

The Crest is the guided its origin to the 19th century coat of arms of the old pen hilde home office Winzenburg.

Traffic

Winzenburg is the south of the community via the federal highway 64 through Bad Gander home, connected to the road network. The nearest train stations are in Freden (Leine) and Alfeld (Leine).

Culture and sights

Church

Since 1861 located in Winzenburg the Catholic Church Nativity of Mary, since November 1, 2006 as a branch church of the parish of St. Mary in Alfeld. The church at Lamspringer road with her highly visible west tower was 1857-61 to plans by HWH Mithoff built in the Romanesque Revival style. Instead of a transept has risalits with gables. Apenteichquellen at Winzenburg
