History

The first written evidence of the name Wonneberg found in the year 1000 than in uuagingariorum monte ( on the Waging mountain). The area of the small rural community in the Rupertiwinkel was from 1275 to 1810 belonging to the archbishopric of Salzburg and then became part of Bavaria. 1496 was built in the Gothic, St. Leonhard consecrated, stately church on behalf of the Archbishop of Salzburg, Leonhard von Keutschach. The paintings in the remarkable triptych are a gift from the Laufener Schiffergilde. Created in 1818 the current municipality. Wonneberg came in 1972 after the dissolution of the district running for the district of Traunstein. In 1978 she was part of the management community.

Policy

The council belong to twelve members. Since the local elections on March 2, 2008, consists of seven seats with a vote share of 56.1 % to the Free Voters and five seats with a vote share of 43.9 % to the non-partisan group of voters. In the previous parliamentary term, the Free Voters had eight Sithze, the nonpartisan voters group three seats and the Greens one seat

Mayor Josef Mayr, who was elected at the municipal election in 2008 with 84.5 % of votes cast.

Education

In the nursery with 50 places 42 children are served by a total of five people. In elementary school 131 children are taught in six classes of seven teachers.

Tradition

Alive is the Leonhardiritt, an ancient pilgrimage on horseback, to the late Gothic pilgrimage church of St. Leonhard am Wonneberg. Before Leonhardi pilgrimages were forbidden during the year by the official church in 1881, studied parish pilgrimages from the surrounding communities and help protect the cattle patron on the mountain bliss. In this religious tradition is still the Leonhardi ride, which is celebrated every year on 6th November and Sunday before or after.
