Wunsiedel (district)

The district Wunsiedel, officially district Wunsiedel i Fichtelgebirge, is a county in the east of the district of Upper Franconia in Bavaria. Neighboring districts are in the north of the district of Hof, in the east of the Czech County Karlovy Vary ( Carlsbad Region ) in the southern district of Tirschenreuth and to the west the district of Bayreuth.

Geography

The county has major share in the Fichtelgebirge, which occupies a horseshoe the north, west and south of the district. In between, the Selb - Wunsiedler plateau, a gently undulating landscape is about 600 meters altitude. To the east of the circle, the landscape drops to about 440 meters. History

The area of ​​today's circle belonged predominantly to the Principality of Bayreuth or to his successor in Prussia before 1800. It was divided into six offices Hohenberg, Kirchenlamitz, Selb, Thierstein, White City and Wunsiedel, which is why it is also called Sechsämterland. 1810 the area came to Bavaria. 1812, the District Courts Wunsiedel and Kirchenlamitz and Rehau and Selb were built. The city Marktredwitz - originally owned by the Imperial Free City of Eger - came in 1816 also to Bavaria and the district court Wunsiedel has been assigned. The Upper Main circuit was renamed in 1838 in Upper Franconia. 1859 originated from twelve municipalities of the district court Wunsiedel and four municipalities of the district court Selb the new district court Thiersheim.

Economy and infrastructure

Traffic

Located in the Sechsämterland on the eastern edge of the Fichtelgebirge district Wunsiedel today also includes the station of Marktredwitz.
