Zavolzhsk
Sawolschsk (Russian Заволжск ) is a city in the Ivanovo (Russia) with 12,045 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).
Geography
The city is located about 110 km northeast of Ivanovo Oblasthauptstadt on the left bank of the Volga River, opposite the city Kineschma. It is not to be confused with the city Sawolschje in the neighboring Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.
Sawolschsk is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.
History
The village was founded in the mid-19th century as the district on the opposite bank of the Volga ( Sawolschje of Russian sa Wolgoi for behind the Volga) located Kineschma, as here, a weaving of cotton fabrics was built. 1871 was a chemical factory ( for sulfuric acid) in operation.
In 1934, the district as Sawolschje independent settlement, which became a town under its present name on October 4, 1954. On October 9, 1968, the city administrative center of a newly established Rajons.

Culture and sights
In Sawolschje the Epiphany Church ( церковь Богоявления / Tserkov Bogojawlenija ) is obtained from 1779. In the nearby village Bredichino is the former country estate of the eminent astronomer Fyodor Bredikhin. However, the local, museum dedicated to him in 1994 burned down.
In the 15 km distant village Wosdwischenje the Exaltation of the Cross church stands ( Крестовоздвиженская церковь / Krestowosdwischenskaja Tserkov ) of 1790.
Economy and infrastructure
In addition to works of the chemical industry ( paints, plastics ) are available in Sawolschk companies in the food, textile and wood processing industry.
The town is the terminus of a 32 -kilometer-long railway line ( freight only ), which branches off in Perwuschino of the route Yaroslavl - Kostroma - Galich.
Sawolschsk is connected to the road network of the Kostroma Oblast on the road R101 after Ostrowskoje. A bridge to the neighboring Kineschma there is not, so no ferste connection to the road network and the railway line Ivanovo- Kineschma on the right bank of the Volga there.
