Kokhma

Kochma (Russian Кохма ) is a city in the Ivanovo (Russia) with 29 411 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

Kochma is a southeastern satellite city of Ivanovo Oblasthauptstadt and only about six miles from this. It lies on the Uwod, a left tributary of the Klyazma in the river system of the Volga.

Kochma belongs to Rajon Ivanovo.

History

The place was first in 1619 mentioned as Roschdestwenskoje - Kochma, wherein the first part of the name to the name of the village church relates (Russian Roschdestwo Khristovo for the birth of Christ ), while the second part probably goes back to an vorrussische name of the area (including the near Ivanovo was called in the 17th century, Ivanovo- Kochma ).

1719 was built in the village Kochma the first cloth weaving the area.

In 1925 the town was awarded its town charter.

Economy and infrastructure

In Kochma there are companies in the textile industry ( cotton fabrics, linen weaving ), a work for construction machinery and a factory for enamelware.

The town lies on the railway line opened in 1868 Nowki - Ivanovo ( 328 route km from Moscow). By Kochma, the road R152 Rostov - Ivanovo- Nizhny Novgorod.

Kochma is connected to the trolley bus network of the city of Ivanovo.
