The Zurich airport train station serves as a rail link to the airport Zurich and is located north of Zurich in the town of Kloten. Although planned as a pure intercity railway station, it is also used by two of its lines since the introduction of the S -Bahn Zurich.

History

The construction of the station began in 1971 as part of the third stage of the airport building, in which, among other things, the Park House B were (now car park 2) and the Dock B is pulled into the air. Was the stage actually completed in 1976, the station was served only on 1 June 1980 the first timetabled trains.

Location and architecture

The station is located under the car park 2 and is developed on the east side of the Airport Center. A tapping on the west side is not possible because the train station is here right under the airport area. He has two island platforms with 400 meters in length, in which the double track will be extended through the airport tunnel on four tracks. On the platform with the tracks 4 and 3 keep the trains to Zurich HB, on the other with the tracks 2 and 1 are those in the opposite direction. He is, along with the S-Bahn Museum Street at the main station of Zurich and the Geneva International Airport, one of only three deep stations of the SBB train station. Orange flashing lights signal the imminent departure of the train.

Above ground, the railway station on the high shafts can be seen, which are also visible on the train ride. The two ventilation shafts were applied in order to keep the air movement and pressure waves that occur when driving through the subsequent tunnel from the station. By the shape of pits, a large part of the air flow is deflected upward; at reduced pressure in the tunnel they allow a subsequent flow of air. This means that only a small subset of effective existing air currents can be felt in the station; and it had to be installed also no door locks between the platforms and the Airport Center.

Traffic

The train station is 300 trains per day, one of the dichtbefahrensten Switzerland and is served by all long-distance trains towards eastern Switzerland. Thus, international connections to Munich or even a direct train to Geneva -Cointrin Airport arise. Special airport trains as in Vienna (City Airport Train) or Milan (Malpensa Express) do not exist, since it was directly connected to the railway network.

The travel time to the central station are around 10 minutes. Because of the high frequencies ending trains will run as a service trip to Bassersdorf in the airport, where they remain until they are again threaded into the regular use at Zurich Airport.
