Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Coro

The Archdiocese of Coro (Latin: Archidioecesis Corensis, Spanish: Archidiócesis de Coro ) is a location in Columbia Roman Catholic diocese based in Coro. It includes part of the Venezuelan state of Falcón.

History

For the first time the diocese was founded out of territory of the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo on 21 June 1531. On July 20, 1637 the chapter was transferred to Santiago de León de Caracas.

Pope Pius XI. founded it on 12 October 1922 with the bull ad munus of cessions of territory of the Diocese of Barquisimeto for the second time. It was simultaneously placed under the Archdiocese of Maracaibo as suffragan.

A part of its territory lost it on July 12, 1997 in favor of the establishment of the Diocese of Punto Fijo. With the Apostolic Constitution Usque omnium was collected on 23 November 1998 in the rank of Metropolitanerzbistums.
