History

The Diocese of Punto Fijo was established on July 12, 1997 by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Ad melius prospiciendum out of territory of the Diocese of Coro. First bishop, Juan María Leonardi Villasmil.

It is the Archdiocese of Coro is a suffragan.
